When someone saids that he is self-employed, the first thing you think of is that he is his own boss and earns a lot of money by working from home.

Yes, being your own boss has its benefits, you do not have that pressure to do the job well because otherwise you will have problems with your boss, but it also has many cons for which a lot of people prefer a 9 to 5 job.

If you work from home online, you will not have a social life, unless you have a group of friends that you have known since you are a kind and you do see and meet every weekend, but in general you will spend a lot of time inside your house without going out, because you can do everything in the same room.

People who go to work every day, unconsciousy socialize with people at their work environment, but freelancers do not.

Many people cannot work from home because they start feeling depressed and lonely. They spend many hours in front of the computer, and once they finish working, they do not have the energy for doing something creative like going for a run or reading books, and this causes them to stop taking care of themselves and their body.

When you are your own boss, you have to forcce and motivate yourself to get out of your bed every morning, to work on your computer so you can pay your bills with it. You also have to congratulate yourself for the good job you have done and you should also give yourself some time off; you do not have anyone to do it for you.

We freelancers live from our creativity, which is the reason why motivation is that important in our daily life. There are times when we don’t know what to write our articles about, or which topic we should choose for a new YouTube video, or we just don’t feel like doing anything and we just want to stay in bed all day, but we know that if we do that, we are not going to earn any money.
Many times we feel bad or have no motivation and if we stay in bed that day, we will feel bad because our mind starts telling us that we have not been productive that day.

People who live from online jobs always have a full calendar, they always have everything organized and are constantly trying to do their best.

In the online world, there is a lot of competition, since everyone consumes the internet every day (and now more since we are experiencing a global pandemic), so you must be constantly uploading new content, doing advertising for your pages and stores, or just looking and searchinf every day for a day for new jobs.

Freelancers who depend from gettting new clients on platforms such as Upwork or Fiverr, feel sometimes very disappointed when they see that they have not found a new job or costumer.
This siutuationns gives you the feeling that no one is interested in you.

Another thing people forget about freelancing is that you will have to search for jobs on your own because otherwise, you will not be able to pay the bills at the end of the month.

And the worst of all at the end; taxes are much higher than by a normal job, this is the reason why freelancers look for other countries where self-employment taxes are lower, and they move thereas soon as possible, to be able to keep more of the money they earn.

After reading all that, do you still think that people who work from home just spend all day in front of the computer doing nothing important?

Why do people choose to become a freelancer?

  1. Sometimes it is because the person has studied something that has to do with the digital environment such as Web Design or Online Marketing, and they cannot find a normal job in a company, so they look for opportunities at online platforms like Upwork.
  2. Other people start offering their services and knowledge about something at online platforms as a hobby or as a passive income, and they end up leaving their normal jobs because they earn enough to live from their online jobs.
  3. Generally, people look for opportunities online because they need the money, they feel uncomfortable with their 9 to 5 jobs, they want to help their family financially, or like the most people nowdays; they need money because the pandemic has ruined them.

Many people are freelancer as a hobby, and others by necessity.

The truth is..

The truth is that many people think that they are going to become a millionaire by working from home and that working from home is much better than a normal job, but it just depends on the person; not everyone was born to work from home.

Also, what you earn corresponds to how much you work; if you work a lot and do many different projects, you will earn more, but the more you earn the more taxes you will pay.

It happens to many freelancers that they have problems with paying their taxes, even if they have not done anything wrong.

Being your own boss can cause you an emotional chaos by spending so much time alone and being stressed planning everything you have to do and looking at how much money you earn each month to see how much taxes you are going to pay.

It is also stressful to be searching for hours for new jobs and projects and applying to them, and not getting an answer. You start feeling frustrated.

But the most important thing is that you know the true reality behind each situation, no matter if it is an online job or a 9 to 5 one.

Any job is worthy, they should all be respected equally.
